In the municipality of Apeldoorn lies a very small village in the middle of the forests, called Kootwijk. Despite the size of the village, it is still a major tourist "attraction. This is mainly due to its location between the heathlands and still active sand drifts. In fact, the Kootwijkerzand is the largest living sand drift in Western Europe. The area is interspersed between these sand drifts and vast heathlands, in addition, the wild bison still lives in this area. You can also still red deer, birds of prey and wild boar spotting.

Near Kootwijk you also have the monumental Radio Kootwijk, which was built in the 1920s as a broadcasting station for contact with the Dutch East Indies. This imposing building stands out striking by its surroundings and its robust appearance, you can also see Radio Kootwijk inside. From the Veluwe Specialist Otterlo and Hoenderloo there are several routes pass by Radio Kootwijk.
