BLOG: Horseback riding on the Veluwe

Posted on 2020-01-27

After booking a horseback ride at Veluwe Specialist the fun begins! The outdoor rides are provided by riding school Belvedére in Nunspeet. Located between three forest areas (the Belvedére, the witte wieven and the zande), this is the ideal location for a nice outdoor ride on horseback.

Upon arrival we are welcomed by Albert in the cozy little bar adjacent to the indoor arena of the stables. Albert is an enthusiastic man who has been working at the stables for more than 15 years and says he can tell immediately whether people are experienced or inexperienced riders. After a cup of coffee and a short introduction we go to the tack room. Here we pick up our caps and, if necessary, riding boots. The horse is already saddled and waiting for us because we gave our experience level and weight in advance. For me this meant that I was "saddled" with Jannes a beautiful Friesian.

Since I am an inexperienced rider, I am first taken to the arena for an hour of lessons from Albert. Fortunately Albert explains everything clearly and in this first hour I was able to learn enough to go into the woods with him for the second hour. As an experienced rider, by the way, you have the option to go straight into the woods and also explore a larger area. However, this is always accompanied by someone from the riding school. The outside ride itself was very beautiful because the trees had brilliant colors in the fall. Against my own expectations, Jannes and I felt each other well and I was able to trot a little bit in the woods. Albert smiles and says that his goal for the day was achieved again. So, the horseback outride is a fun activity and perfect for a day out on the Veluwe because you also get out into the beautiful countryside!
