Man with the two hats

Man with the two hats

The liberation monument "Man with the two hats" is a national Canadian liberation monument, a lasting tribute from the Netherlands to Canada. In 1945 we were liberated by many nationalities, but especially by Canadians. The same monument also stands in Canada; this one is identical except for the eyes.

Both monuments were unveiled by Princess Margriet, the statue stands with its feet on an image of the "Maple Leaf," which is characteristic of Canada. The two statues express the connection between the two countries. The two hats represent war and peace, oppression and liberation, death and life, joy and sorrow.
