On Sunday, September 6, 2026, the forest rangers of Geldersch Landschap & Kasteelen are organizing a hike through the Staverden estate with a special focus on water. We’ll follow the Staverdense Beek and explore the formation of the Veluwe and the use of water. The Veluwe was formed during the Ice Age, when glaciers pushed the land upward, creating a high and dry area. Rainwater seeps into the ground here and resurfaces lower down as seepage water. The Staverdense Beek is a natural lowland stream, fed by this seepage water. This makes it unique in the Veluwe, where many streams were dug out later. This water was of great importance to people. It powered water mills, was used for fish farming, and made the stream valley suitable as fertile hayfields. In this way, the stream illustrates how nature and human use have coexisted here for centuries. Advance online registration is required.

Participation fee: 6.00 euros per person; children ages 4–12: 3.00 euros per person; donors: 3.00 euros per person; children ages 4–12 of donors: 1.50 euros per person upon presentation of a valid GLK donor card.
Tip from the forest ranger: Wear sturdy hiking shoes; the trail may be uneven or wet in some places.
