STAVERDEN - The forest rangers of Geldersch Landschap & Kasteelen are organizing a walk through the grasslands of the Staverden estate on Sunday, May 3, 2026. At first glance, grasslands and meadows may seem simple, but they are home to an enormous biodiversity. From flower-filled hay meadows along the Staverdense stream to herb-rich grasslands full of unique plants—each landscape plays its own role in nature. The sweet, nutritious perennial ryegrass also serves an important function within the landscape.
At the start of Biodiversity Week, the forest rangers of Geldersch Landschap & Kasteelen will take participants on a discovery tour through these diverse grasslands. You’ll learn which plants and animals live here and why preserving these areas is so important. From fluttering butterflies and singing skylarks to hidden herbs and grasses—there’s something to discover everywhere. Advance online registration is required.
Time: starts at 2:00 PM. Duration: approx. 2 hours.
Participation: €6.00 per person, children ages 4–12 €3.00 per person, donors €3.00 per person, children ages 4–12 of donors €1.50 per person upon presentation of a valid GLK donor card.
Tip from the forest ranger: Download the Obsidentify app on your phone and make sure it’s fully charged. We’ll be kneeling in the grass, so please dress accordingly.
