The forest rangers of Geldersch Landschap & Kasteelen are organizing an early morning walk on the Petrea estate on Saturday, March 21, 2026. Have you ever noticed how wonderful a spring forest smells? It’s time for a brisk morning walk across the Petrea estate. The area lies high and dry on the East Veluwe moraine. This ridge, which runs from Zwolle to Arnhem, was formed 180,000 years ago by glacial ice flowing here from Scandinavia. Petrea has a fascinating history tied to the famous meteorologist Buys Ballot. Perhaps we’ll also spot traces of deer, wild boar, or other wildlife along the way. For the past few years, these animals have been able to reach the Petrea estate via the wildlife overpass across the A50, which connects the Veluwe to the area. Advance online reservation is required.
