DOORWERTH - The forest rangers of Geldersch Landschap & Kasteelen are organizing a tawny owl excursion around Doorwerth Castle on Friday, December 19, 2025. Join us on a special evening excursion and listen to the mysterious call of the tawny owl around the castle. With around 5,500 breeding pairs, the tawny owl is the most common owl in the Netherlands, but rarely seen up close. In the dark winter months, its recognizable "hoo-hoo" echoes through the forest. Sometimes exciting, always impressive. We may also hear the barn owl, long-eared owl, or even the little owl. A unique experience, because normally this area is not accessible after sunset. Experience the magic of the night during this special owl evening! Advance online reservations are required.
Time: starts at 7:00 p.m. Duration: approx. 2 hours.
Participation: €6.00 per person, children aged 10 to 12 €3.00 per person, donors €3.00 per person, children aged 10 to 12 of donors €1.50 per person on presentation of a valid GLK donor card.
Tip from the forest ranger: Silence is important, so dogs and children under the age of 10 are not allowed. Wear warm clothing and sturdy shoes and bring a torch. Observations are dependent on the weather.
