HEERDE - The rangers of Geldersch Landschap & Kasteelen are organizing several deer rutting excursions on the De Dellen estate between September 13 and October 3, 2025. In September and October it is rutting time for the red deer. The males then gather a number of hinds around them. This group is called a rutting pack. The males defend the pack by belling, among other things. This is a beautiful primal sound. If you want a chance to hear the belling sound, join the forest ranger. We will listen at the wildlife observation post in the resting area of De Dellen. With luck, we will not only get to hear the rutting spectacle, but also see it. Advance online reservations are required.
Time: start at 6 p.m. Duration: approx. 2.5 hours.
Participation: 12.50 euros p.p., donors 7.50 euros p.p. on presentation of a valid GLK donor's pass.
Tip from the forester: Bring binoculars.
To keep in mind:
Wild animals are unpredictable; their presence is not guaranteed.
In order not to disturb the animals, it is necessary to maintain silence, turn off your phone and do not photograph.
Wear dark, noiseless and warm clothing and avoid wearing perfume.
The walk to the wildlife observation post takes about 20 minutes (one way) and is partly on a narrow, unpaved and uneven path. Therefore, it is important that you have good mobility.
Participation is for ages 12 and up, without dogs.
