HATTEM - The forest rangers of Geldersch Landschap & Kasteelen are organizing a visit to a particularly bird-rich area on Thursday, September 11, 2025. East of Hattem on the edge of the IJssel valley lie the Wiessenbergse Kolk, De Hoenwaard and the Algemene Veen. In the Algemene Veen there is an unprecedentedly beautiful thicket of junipers high and dry. The Wiessenbergse Kolk and the Hoenwaard are located in the river plain. Especially in this area many bird species can be found throughout the year. The forester is happy to take participants for a visit to this bird-rich area. Some years dozens of casarca have been spotted here in late August and early September. These are not escaped aviary birds (which has long been thought), but wild birds that breed in northern and central Europe and have found their way to the Netherlands to molt and gain strength in peace here for a new breeding season. There are other bird species that roam this area after the breeding season. Unlike plant excursions, the weather conditions in the weeks before the excursion determine which species we will see. This is always exciting! Maybe we'll get lucky and see a kingfisher flash by along the Apeldoorn Canal as well. Advance online reservation is required.
Time: start at 2 pm. Duration: approx. 2 hours.
Participation: 6.00 euro p.p., children 4-12 years 3.00 euro p.p., contributors 3.00 euro p.p., children 4-12 years of contributors 1.50 euro p.p. on presentation of a valid GLK contributor card.
