Eibertjesdag is an annual folkloric event in Nunspeet on the Friday after Ascension Day, with costume shows and fair.
Eibertje, in costume of course, is the shining centerpiece on this day.
The Werkgroep Folklore en Klederdracht van de Heemkundige Vereniging Nuwenspete organizes together with Nunspeet Onderneemt Samen and Nunspeet uit de Kunst, on Friday, May 30, the annual, Eibertjesdag. A day named after the eggwoman who long ago came from Vierhouten to Nunspeet to walk weekly to bring her eggs to the man or woman.
This day is special. It is not an ordinary market day but it is a folklore day. During this day every year costume groups from all corners of the Netherlands come to Nunspeet to show their regional costume. From the multicolored clothing of the various dracht many facts can be derived. During church holidays like Easter and Pentecost for example, separate garments are worn, during weddings the costume is different again. Always beautiful to see. Each costume has its history and peculiarities. It is often linked to the livelihood of the people in the past. During shows all kinds of stories are told about this, each group has ten minutes for this.
Members of the groups will be seen all over the village. For them, a day of shopping is also attractive. Most of them like to be photographed and are happy to pose for a moment, questions can always be asked.
Fans of regional costumes can get their money's worth on this day. It is not often that so many traditional costumes can be seen in one place on one day. From all over the country people come to Nunspeet.
There are also folkloric dance groups, which will show their old Dutch dances at various places in the center.
The valeta and the polka, while not a tango, are great fun to watch! At the end of the day there will be a big dance show in the Market Square.
At the beginning of the day, again this year there will be a parade in which all groups participate; each group has a sign indicating its place of origin, so that Spakenburgers are not mistaken for Staphorsters. The parade will be preceded by our own Nunspeet Harmony.
Will you come and enjoy the beautiful music of Harmonie Nunspeet and the Costume Parade? At 10.00 am the parade will start from the Whemeplein, it will then go through the Dominee de Bouterlaan, Dominee Martiniuslaan, Brinkersweg, Laan, Dorpsstraat, Bergakkerweg, Driestweg, Stationslaan, Dorpsstraat, Marktstraat to come out on the Marktplein, where the performances will start.
Extra nice is that several artists will be at work at the market and the Dorpskerk is open; here you can unwind and enjoy beautiful choral music in the afternoon.
Not a fan of costume? Even then Eibertjesdag is highly recommended; there is much more to see and experience. For example, there are some old tractors on display, there are several fun attractions and you can see various craftsmen at work. The large market with all kinds of delicacies and great bargains and the many cozy terraces will certainly provide you with a pleasant day of entertainment.
