Cultural-historical walk Oldenaller estate - Putten

Take a walk with the forest ranger across the West Veluwe, listen to the special stories and enjoy the terminal plants that bloom in spring at Oldenaller Estate!

Memorial:
We start at the parking lot at the beginning of the Oldenallerallee, where the forester takes you back in time, to the night of September 30, 1944 when a resistance group from Putten shelled a passenger car of the German Wehrmacht. After a firefight, two non-commissioned officers escaped and reprisals followed in which 552 men eventually died.

After this, the walk continues on the Oldenallerallee, the 1-kilometer driveway to Oldenaller Castle. You will learn about a seepage stream, an artesian spring and about water with a constant temperature so it never freezes.

Special plants and trees:
Through the castle we walk to the park where many plants and flowers grow, such as rhododendron, wood anemone, wood hyacinth, salomon's seal and golden oriole, and exotic trees like swamp cypress and a tulip tree. In spring, the park forest turns blue and yellow with what are known as stinzen plants; plants found only in gardens or parks of country estates.

The call of a kingfisher:
As you walk, look carefully around you and keep your ears open; you may hear the call of a kingfisher and see it skimming over the water like a blue bolt. The park is also home to a colony of herons, who have built their nests high in the trees.

Passing a new orchard and two sheep pens, we walk back to the castle, where we finish the walk with a cup of coffee or tea in Natuurmonumenten's work shed.
Join the forester and discover more about this historic heritage during a two-hour walk.
