A spring walk across a diverse estate!
Brakel estate has a beautiful park forest and old orchards. In addition, there is a new park area with deciduous forest, flower meadows and a pond. The landscape park contains the remains of a medieval castle that once stood here.
The ruin was incorporated into the park as a romantic element. It is the only surviving example of such a park in Gelderland. The partially walled garden is maintained by volunteers as an ecological flower, herb and vegetable garden. In the spring, we can find a variety of Stein plants there. Furthermore, the deciduous forest is the only old forest in the vicinity making it an important habitat for many animals. In addition to various songbirds, the green woodpecker, kingfisher, barn owl and stork benefit from the diversity of the area.
