Animals in winter, Staverden estate

STAVERDEN - The rangers of Geldersch Landschap & Kasteelen are organizing an educational walk on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2025, about the behavior of animals in winter on Staverden estate. Join the forest ranger on this winter walk and discover how the animals of Staverden spend the cold months. In the winter, wildlife does not have it easy, but they are used to it. Most animals do not hibernate. Squirrels, badgers and moles, for example, do not but they do stay in their burrows most of the time. Deer and roe deer even search for food under the snow. Birds that don't tolerate the cold migrate south and insects hide in the ground or behind tree bark. During the hike, the forest ranger will tell you all about the winter behavior of these animals and maybe together you will discover traces of their presence. This excursion is perfect for both young and old to experience nature in winter. Advance online reservations are required.
