HEERDE - The forest rangers of Geldersch Landschap & Kasteelen are organizing a winter walk with midwinter horn blowers on the De Dellen estate on Monday, January 6, 2025. Will you join us for a fascinating winter walk on De Dellen estate? During the walk, the forester will tell you about the development of the estate. Some historical sites are also visited. The last hour of the walk we stay on the Renderklippen, where we watch and listen to midwinter horn blowers.
A midwinter horn is a long wooden horn made of birch, alder or willow. According to time-honored tradition, Gelderland and Overijssel midwinter horn blowers blow only from the first Sunday of Advent (four Sundays before Christmas) through Three Kings (Jan. 6). The purpose of blowing is to dispel darkness and call forth light, as described in the following proverb: "They take turns blowing the message that darkness must come because light is coming.
