HATTEM - The forest rangers of Geldersch Landschap & Kasteelen are organizing a walk across the Petrea estate on Saturday, December 21, 2024. Petrea estate is almost 460 hectares in size and lies high and dry on the East Veluwe lateral moraine. This ridge, which runs from Zwolle to Arnhem, was formed about 180,000 years ago by land ice that flowed here from Scandinavia. Petrea has a beautiful history surrounding the famous meteorologist Buys Ballot, who wanted to use the loam in the area to make bricks. We may also see traces of deer and boar along the way. Since a few years these animals can reach the Petrea estate via the wildlife viaduct over the A50. The forester will take participants on a ramble through this area. Booking in advance online is necessary.
Time: start at 10 a.m. Duration: about 2 hours.
Participation: 5.00 euro p.p., children 4-12 years 2.50 euro p.p., donors free on presentation of a valid GLK donor pass.
Forest ranger's tip: the trails are often loose, wear sturdy hiking shoes.
