APELDOORN- From Tuesday, July 9 to 12, the 69th edition of the Cantharel International Four Days Marches Apeldoorn will be held again.

Ever since 1954, the International Four Days Marches Apeldoorn, always beginning on the second Tuesday of July, has been a household name among walkers in the Netherlands. Already tens of thousands of walkers have enjoyed the unique Veluwe nature over the years: the beautiful forests, moors, sand drifts and springs. But also of the picturesque Veluwe villages such as Beekbergen, Loenen, Hoenderloo, Vaassen and Hoog Soeren, and Apeldoorn treasures such as Berg & Bos City Park, the palace park of Kroondomein Het Loo and Paleis Het Loo.
The Cantharel International Four-Day Apeldoorn has a nice amalgamation of various hiking enthusiasts. Both the traditional hiker and the recreational hiker can put together a customized hiking trip. One can choose from the distances of 12, 20, 30 and 40 km. You can also choose to walk for one, two, three or four days. Do you walk for a performance or do you walk for fun, health or to socialize: everyone is welcome.
More walkers in Apeldoorn
"Walkers are rediscovering the Apeldoorn Four Days Marches," says Irma Woudenberg, board member of the organization, "last year we had a nice increase in participants, both four-day walkers, as well as walkers who walked along for one or more days. New participants were surprised about the routes, the sociability and the friendliness of the volunteers, Characteristics that are always appreciated by our regular participants.
According to Irma, the organization will continue to encourage walking in Apeldoorn as much as possible. She says: "In the coming years, the Stichting Internationale Vierdaagse Apeldoorn wants to contribute with its event to the strategic goals to further put Apeldoorn on the map as a lively city and further expand its activities. As a socially engaged organization, the foundation wants to be the point of contact for (stimulating and promoting) walking in the municipality of Apeldoorn. Starting points for these walking activities remain the core values that are so appreciated by the participants of the Apeldoorn Four Day Marches: walking in nature, accessibility and approachability that give the pleasure of being on the move for your health." For this the working groups Walking Tours Apeldoorn e.o. and the working group Walking in Apeldoorn are active.
New routes
Each day of the Cantharel International Four Days Marches Apeldoorn takes place in a different area of Apeldoorn. Again this year there are a number of changes to the routes. These changes were made to further ensure that participants can walk generously in nature. Day 1 takes place around Ugchelen, Beekbergen and Loenen. Paleis Het Loo is the setting for day 2, with the 30 and 40 km also heading towards Vaassen. Day 3 takes participants to the Orderbos, Berg en Bos, Hoog Soeren and at the 40 km even Radio Kootwijk. On the final day, day 4, walkers head towards Het Leesten, and for the 30 and 40 km also via Hoenderloo, to the finish. All participants are accompanied at the end with cheerful music towards the well-deserved flowers and warm reception by organization, friends and family.

Participants who register for the Cantharel International Four-Day Apeldoorn before Feb. 28 can walk for free with the Midden Veluwetocht on March 2 and 3 from van der Valk hotel De Cantharel Ugchelen upon presentation of proof of registration.
