In 1911, when Helene Kröller-Müller suffers a life-threatening illness and must undergo major surgery, she decides she wants to have a museum built in which the art she has collected can be shared with the Dutch people.
Initially a museum is planned in The Hague but she later chooses to have it built on the Veluwe. House architect Berlage and his successor Henry van de Velde make designs and in 1920 Helene is lyrical about the first drawings of the 'Groote Museum' designed by van de Velde. Construction begins in 1921 at the foot of the Franse Berg but financial setbacks prevent its completion. However, the dream lives on.
During this walk led by a nature guide, you will visit, among other things, the foundations of the museum that was never finished. Also on the program is an exclusive visit to the graves of the Kröller-Müller couple.
Price of activity does not include entrance to Park, reservation is required.
