Children's spring excursion National Park de Hoge Veluwe - Otterlo

The month of September in The Hoge Veluwe National Park is all about the rut (mating season) of the red deer. During this time the stags compete for the does. They do this by impressing the stags with, among other things, the belling (oestrus call). This mighty sound can be heard in many places in the evening.

During this excursion, children will join a nature guide in search of the rutting deer. Please note that from the entrances it is about 15 minutes by car to the center where the Museonder is located.

To allow the rut to proceed undisturbed, additional rest areas have been established for wildlife during the month of September. As a result, some hiking and equestrian trails are not accessible or accessible. See the website for which trails these are.

Because of the enormous interest, guided spring excursions are often booked up quickly. Of course, this does not necessarily mean that the spectacle of the rut passes you by; the Park is open for visits as usual. Check this map for publicly accessible wildlife observation sites. These locations are where you are most likely to see belling deer.

Please note that the cost does not include entrance to the Park.
